What role does public policy have in unlocking these flows?

Recent Training Highlights
Government Training
In 2024, ASFI worked with Prospera (the Australia Indonesia Partnership for Economic Development) to deliver an in-person training on sustainable finance taxonomies with the Indonesian Government.
The training provided a chance for Australia and Indonesia to exchange approaches and learnings following the release of the second version of the Indonesian sustainable finance taxonomy, which provides clarity on the economic activities that contribute to the country’s sustainability targets.
ASFI shared our experience leading the development of an Australian sustainable finance taxonomy, supporting Indonesia as it looks to implement and maximise adoption of its taxonomy.
The two-day training was delivered to participants from several of Indonesia’s finance-related government agencies. The delivery format was a combination of plenary presentations and workshops, covering:
Taxonomy fundamentals
Global taxonomy development
How public policy can influence taxonomy use cases
Impacts of taxonomies on the real economy, particularly in relation to energy and mining, which are important industries in both Indonesia and Australia.
ASFI is highly collaborative and maintains close partnerships across industry organisations, international peers and our broad finance sector membership base. These relationships allowed us access to several industry experts who provided practical examples and perspectives to complement the training.
Participants developed a clearer understanding of what taxonomies are, how they affect capital flows and how the policy landscape can be optimised to support taxonomy implementation.
“The training with ASFI has been very useful for me. For someone with very basic knowledge, the training helped me to gain adequate knowledge about [Indonesia’s] sustainable finance taxonomy.
I liked the participant sharing session with the regulators and with financial institutions who provided their perspectives on the taxonomy and how they use it to decide their investing activity. I can understand the perspectives of both parties and possible ways to improve the Indonesian sustainable finance taxonomy. The facilitators did a very nice job to get more involvement from participants in the discussion.”

Finance Sector Training
In December 2024, ASFI engaged in a series of education workshops on sustainable finance with multinational financial institution, Bank of China.
We look forward to sharing a summary upon the training’s completion.
