Learning Project Manager | Australian Sustainable Finance Institute

  • As the Project Manager, Learning, you will play a key role in managing the design and delivery of learning and education solutions that enhance finance sector capability. You will oversee the project delivery of learning programs, manage contractors, and execute initiatives like ASFI’s mentoring program and ASFI Learn courses. This hands-on role requires someone who thrives on getting things done, keeping projects moving, and managing multiple priorities with a calm and organised approach.

    • Coordinate the delivery of ASFI’s professional capability programs, including learning product development, mentoring programs, and capability related events.

    • Manage external contractors and learning designers to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of online and blended learning materials.

    • Track and report on delivery milestones, timelines, budgets, and risks.

    • Support the implementation of Australia’s Sustainable Finance Capability Framework.

    • Manage all aspects of the operational rollout of ASFI Learn, including course development and quality assurance processes and work with others on marketing and anything else needed for successful rollout.

    • Develop and maintain clear documentation, including project plans and progress reports, and report to the Executive Team.

    • Facilitate internal and external workshops and working groups as needed.

  • With an understanding of the sustainable finance, ESG or financial services landscape, you have a demonstrated alignment with ASFI’s mission and values, and a proactive, solutions-focused approach to continuous improvement. You are comfortable working in a small, agile team environment where flexibility, initiative and a collaborative mindset are key. Additionally, you will have:

    • 4-6 years’ experience delivering similar projects in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

    • Proven ability to coordinate multiple projects and moving parts, people, timelines, and contractors, with a calm, organised and collaborative approach.

    • Experience managing external contractors or content providers (e.g. learning designers, facilitators), including briefing, quality control and delivery oversight.

    • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to independently manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

    About the Team

    The Major Projects Division (MPD) sits within NSW Treasury’s Commercial Group and is NSW Treasury’s in-house major projects and strategic transaction team. MPD provides commercial and financial and advice and undertakes due diligence and complex negotiations for the Treasurer and the NSW Government.

    MPD is made up of three pillars:

    • Major Projects: partners with agencies to deliver major capital projects including provision of commercial and financial advice to agencies on funding, financing, procuring and delivering major infrastructure, energy transition, precinct development and capital projects throughout the project lifecycle from investment decision, bid evaluation, negotiation, contract execution, delivery and operation.

    • Strategic Transactions: leads the execution of transactions, financial due diligence, governance strategy and complex commercial and contract negotiations with the public and private sector on behalf of the State.

    • Policy: develops and administers a range of policy initiatives, in collaboration with other parts of Treasury and the NSW Government, including the PPP Guidelines and other policy imperatives. MPD also contributes towards the development of policy in the infrastructure and construction sector and promotes consistency in government procurements.

  • You will take a leading role within Treasury and the MPD team, providing timely and expert advice and leadership across the Major Projects and Strategic Transactions pillars. The opportunities are available for three different grades.

    Associate Director (Clerk Grade 11/12):

    • The Associate Director plays a leading role advising in relation to the procurement and delivery of large scale and complex infrastructure projects and commercial transactions.

    • The role will suit an individual with significant industry experience and the ability to work with autonomy, make key decisions and play a front-line role in negotiations, strategy discussions and commercial evaluations.

    • The Associate Director supervises and develops other members of the team and provides key input into the day to day running of the team.

    Senior Associate (Clerk Grade 9/10):

    • The Senior Associate is an integral member of the team and will play a leading role in relation to discrete aspects of the procurement and delivery of large scale and complex infrastructure projects and commercial transactions.

    • The role will suit an individual with experience in the industry and the ability to work independently and make key decisions and make an important contribution to negotiations, strategy discussions and commercial evaluations.

    • The Senior Associate will support senior team members and develop other members of the team.

    Associate (Clerk Grade 7/8):

    • The Associate provides key input in relation to the role of MPD in the procurement and delivery of large scale and complex infrastructure projects and commercial transactions.

    The role will suit an individual with some experience in the industry who wishes to further develop their exposure to major infrastructure projects and commercial transactions and play an important role in negotiations and strategy discussions.

  • These roles will suit applicants with a range of skills and experiences and from a variety of backgrounds, including those set out below. It is not expected that applicants will demonstrate all attributes referred to below.

    • Experience in infrastructure, energy transition, major projects or project finance at a public or private sector organisation, law or professional services firm.

    • Experience structuring, negotiating and executing infrastructure, energy transition or precinct development and taking a lead role in transaction management including commercial/legal and/or financial workstreams.

    • Experience in financial due diligence, corporate advisory, commercial and contractual negotiations gained from professional service firms or investment banking.

    • Tertiary or postgraduate qualifications in engineering, commerce, finance, law or in a related discipline.

    Major projects and strategic transactions are many and varied in Treasury. You will work across a number of sectors including the State’s renewable energy transition roadmap, transformative transport projects or helping to deliver critical new social infrastructure in the health, education or social housing or corrective justice sectors as well as niche sectors such as airlines, hospitality, gaming and racing.

    This role liaises extensively with other areas within Treasury, with NSW government agencies and equivalents in other jurisdictions across Australia, and with external stakeholders.
