Priority Actions for Financing Adaptation & Resilience: Outcomes report from Climate Action Week Sydney 2026
As part of Climate Action Week Sydney 2026, the Australian Sustainable Finance Institute (ASFI), in partnership with IAG, convened stakeholders from across banking, insurance, investment, government and research to explore how Australia can strengthen the financing of climate adaptation and resilience.
The discussion was grounded in a shared understanding that climate risks are increasing, while investment in adaptation and resilience is not yet occurring at the scale required.
Participants identified a consistent challenge across the system: while capital is available, it is not consistently reaching adaptation and resilience opportunities.
The outcomes report from this event, ‘Priority Actions for Financing Adaptation & Resilience’ summarises the outcomes of that dialogue, outlining key structural barriers and identifying priority actions to support more effective capital allocation.
It reflects a whole-of-finance system perspective, with a focus on the frameworks, market structures and coordination required to enable investment.
The findings are structured across four interrelated themes: valuing adaptation, building market infrastructure, making projects investible, and mobilising capital markets.
