Established in 2021 ASFI works to realign the finance sector, enabling capital to flow to activities that will create a sustainable, resilient and inclusive Australia.

Australia’s financial system will increasingly need to respond to long term environmental, economic and social risks — while directing capital toward opportunities that strengthen resilience, competitiveness and inclusion.

That means a system that:

  • is resilient to systemic shocks and long term risks
  • supports informed financial decision making
  • improves financial inclusion and access
  • values nature and long-term sustainability
  • helps enable an orderly transition to a net-zero economy
  • creates stronger outcomes for communities and future generations

To realign Australia’s financial system so that more money flows to activities that will create a sustainable, resilient and inclusive Australia.

ASFI Mission Statement

Areas of impact

Through our work programs we seek to drive impact in the following key areas:

Climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience

Supporting and enabling private capital flows into climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience across the Australian economy.

Nature and biodiversity

Understanding the value of nature and improving how nature-related risks and opportunities are reflected in financial decisions.

First Nations economic self-determination

Elevating and embedding First Nations voices and perspectives in the finance system to support and enable First Nations economic self-determination.

Leadership and capability

Shifting capability, mindsets and leadership across the financial system for sustainability.

Reconciliation

ASFI’s vision for reconciliation is an Australia where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge, priorities and perspectives are meaningfully embedded within financial decision-making.

We support greater economic self-determination and improved access to finance, recognising that stronger financial systems should create broader participation and better outcomes.

Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)

ASFI's RAP outlines how reconciliation is embedded across ASFI’s operations, partnerships and work programs.
