Submission to the Australian Government’s Green Metals Consultation

ASFI welcomes the opportunity to respond to the Department of Industry, Science and Resources’ consultation on green metals. By developing a leading green metals industry, Australia has a considerable opportunity to strengthen its long-term economic prospects, become a key player in the transition to net zero, and contribute meaningfully to global decarbonisation efforts.

To realise this opportunity, significant flows of investment and finance – together with a coherent policy approach that brings in key stakeholders – will be needed. Our submission therefore focuses on:

  • the role of finance and investment in realising Australia’s green metals opportunities

  • the importance of credible standards to drive this finance and investment, and ensure

  • aligned approaches by the public and private sectors, and

  • the need to elevate First Nations perspectives and considerations as part of the

  • Australian Government’s policy agenda in relation to green metals.
